A musical for kids inspired on a children book I wrote.
It was premiered on June 7th, 2022 at the Coliseu do Porto, by the students of the Academia de Música de Costa Cabral.
This musical is in Portuguese, but English and French versions are being prepared, please contact me for more information.
This musical is based on the homonymous child tale, written by Ricardo Matosinhos, and published by Cordel d’Prata, in which a cat loses six of its seven lives, but learns valuable lessons. We humans, who have only one life, can also learn from this cat. From the lessons Tufa learns to be prudent, to respect animals, to eat what nature tells us, not to trust strangers (even if they look good), and to respect the difference of the others.
Instrumentation: Choir, Piano; Symphonic Orchestra, winds a 2 (1 tuba), 4 percussionists, piano, slide whistle and strings. If not all instruments are available, the reduction piano can be used in combination with the available instruments in the orchestra. Regarding the difficulty, the orchestral part can be sung by students of an intermediate level. The vocal parts may be sung by younger students, usually in unison, with some sporadic passages in 2, 3 even 4 voices, but reinforced by the instruments of the orchestra. As far as the theatrical parts are concerned, they are mostly spoken, there are only three small interventions sung by two of the main characters. The choir intervenes following each scene whenever the hero of the story learns a lesson, reinforcing a message to retain.
